広域感染症疫学・制御研究部門:Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control
研究上の強み: Research Advantage
- We collect and analyze information about infectious disease trends and outbreaks, and then make recommendations based on our findings.
- We conduct field surveys on leptospirosis and insect-borne diseases. We also develop methods for these surveys.

部門の沿革: History of the division
The Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control (DIDEC) was newly established as the 6th division of National Defense Medical College Research Institute (NDMCRI) in the reorganization of 2016, with the former Infectious Disease Epidemiology Analysis Officer set up in 2012. In 2022, an Associate Professor post was established to further strengthen research on infectious disease risk assessment in collaboration with JSDF and foreign militaries. We have a visiting researcher in biosafety and biosecurity since 2020, a visiting researcher in entomology since 2022, and a visiting researcher in molecular biology since 2025.
研究目的: Research objectives
Establishment of a management system infrastructure against infectious disease crises (networking infection control, human resource development projects, infection control /surveillance activities)
研究課題: Research subjects
DIDEC conducts 1) operational research based on infectious disease epidemiology and 2) basic research on infectious disease epidemiology.
⑴ Operational research based on infectious disease epidemiology: Using a domestic and international network of infectious disease specialists, we collect information on the status of infectious disease epidemics by data sharing and research exchange, analyze their impact on the activities of the Self Defense Forces, and provide consultation to troops and other personnel on infectious disease countermeasures. (Think tank-like activities)
When an infectious disease outbreak occurs in a unit, we visit the site to conduct field epidemiological study, make recommendations on infection control. Occasionally, we are requested by local governments to conduct such investigations. (Field Epidemiology)
⑵ Basic research on infectious disease epidemiology includes studies on leptospirosis, tick-borne infectious diseases, and dengue fever as risk assessment of infectious diseases in JSDF. We are also engaged in researches on remote surveillance for mosquitoes and on the improvement of mosquito traps.
⑶ As part of the maintenance of a safe and secure research environment and human resource development, we are working on BSL2 maintenance of the Molecular Biology Laboratory in the NDMCRI and basic education related to laboratory research.
